The feminine (x), through the collective feminine (all the x-es in women [xx] and men [xy]), rules the world. But the feminine, woman, does so through men. When men are not being men, but -like today- ever-lazier, irresponsible, effeminate and emasculated, you can bet that the collective feminine is at work. Both reacting against such and causing it to worsen -by making women try to become men and making more men and women "become" gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders and worse- for its own purposes.. Today is the day when couples around the world celebrate their love for each other, but what many people do not realize is that St. Valentine is also the patron saint of epilepsy.
In ancient times, the cause of epilepsy was unknown as a result, the condition was often thought of as an evil spirit or demon inhabiting the unfortunate human.
“The condition was seen to be a supernatural event where the gods had both the power to inflict epilepsy on people (as punishment, atonement or a challenge) and to release people from it,” says Philip Lee, of Epilepsy Action.
The more serious the disease, the greater the number of patron saints were responsible. Although there were forty saints associated with epilepsy, St Valentine was the best known.
There are two saints with the name Valentine who are worshipped in the Roman Catholic Church: Valentine of Terni, patron saint day February 14, and Valentine of Rhaetia, patron saint day January 7.
Historically, people with epilepsy are portrayed in images of both these St. Valentines. According to Saints.com, most scholars believe they are the same person. St. Valentine also protects against fainting.
Wounded veterans build new skills to keep serving
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (Reuters) - Sergeant Michael Kidd considered cyberspace a hobby before he joined the Marines in 2003, but he hopes to make it his new battlefield after suffering debilitating injuries in Iraq.
At the naval air station in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the 26-year-old from Williamsburg has been retraining to fight cyber threats, one of a number of wounded warriors making the transition to non-traditional combat fields.
"Electronic warfare has become a major player," Kidd said. "If you can get the information out of the hands of the terrorists, that's half the battle right there."
The Department of Defense has solidified its approach to cyber-warfare, recognizing in a report last year that cyberspace is a domain for military operations similar to land, air, sea and space.
At stake are more than 15,000 defense computer networks and seven million computing devices across hundreds of installations in dozens of countries. Civilian targets including power grids and financial systems are also vulnerable, experts say.
Kidd expects to be medically retired from the Marine Corps after post-traumatic stress disorder and shoulder injuries from two roadside bomb blasts in Iraq set back his military career, but wants to continue serving...................
Operation Warfighter, a defense program, places recuperating service members in internships with the FBI, National Security Agency, Department of Homeland Security and other agencies, said Captain Jill L. Wolf, spokeswoman for the Wounded Warrior Regiment.
The program has 515 active internships for wounded veterans making the often difficult transition............................
"They're still serving their county in those fields," Wilson said.provided favorable job prospects for wounded veterans, including with private contractors.
For instance, Navy Cyber Force, one of several units under the U.S. military's Cyber Command, employs almost 600 people at its Virginia Beach headquarters, according to its website.
Wounded veterans also hold an advantage over other applicants in the cyber security job market by having security clearance, which has a shelf life of "between two to 10 years," Larned said.
Kidd said he was happy for the chance to turn his interest in computers into an alternate career path now that he can no longer do the more labor intensive jobs in the Marine Corps.
He has completed the 24-week cybersecurity course and said he hopes to work for a government agency or a contractor that supports such an agency after he passes two more required exams.
"The computer world has changed a lot since I used to be into it, but I'm picking things up pretty quickly," Kidd said.


TBI, back to snowboarding
In 2010, Kevin Pearce was one of the best snowboarders in the world. He had beat Shaun White in a head-to-head competition and was a favorite to make the 2010 Olympics. But then tragedy struck. While practicing a complicated stunt, he slammed his head into the half pipe and suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
He fell into a coma. Doctors weren't sure he would be able to walk again. For two years, he went through intensive rehabilitation and, over time, regained the ability to talk, walk and eat. And on Tuesday, December 13, he got on his snowboard and went for a run for the first time since his accident.
"It was special," the 24-year-old tells Gianna Toboni (@GiannaToboniABC ) of "Good Morning America." "I was in the hospital for six months, going to rehab, and to get back on it was special."
But Pearce always planned to get back on the slopes. Even when doctors were telling him that he would never be able to do it, he didn't listen. "I focused on getting back on my snowboard. I was in critical care, going through therapy and my mindset, my goal was to get back on my board."
Pearce's determination alone, however, isn't the only thing that he credits for his amazing recovery. He also credits his family. "They have played such a huge role," he says. "They were there every single day, whether sleeping on the floor or just being with me in the hospital. They're still there, two years later, supporting me."
Though Pearce isn't sure if he'll ever compete again, he is sure of one thing: He'll never take anything for granted again. "I was at the top of snowboarding and didn't realize what I had," he says. "Now I kind of see life in a different way." (TOUCHE')

(CNN) -- In the tiny New York town of LeRoy, one thing is for sure; since October, 16 people suddenly have developed uncontrollable twitching and verbal tics. (TOURETTE'S-LIKE ?)
Three months later, they -- and the rest of the town -- are still wondering why.
Doctors have diagnosed most of them with conversion disorder, saying that stress is the likely root of their physical problems.
"What happens is there traditionally some kind of stress or multiple stressors that provoke a physical reaction within the body," said Dr. Jennifer McVige, a neurologist who has evaluated several of the teens. "This is unconscious, it is not done purposefully and it's almost like ... the stress wells up in your body has to come out in some way shape or form." ("HYSTERIA" ?)
Case of N.Y. teens' tics makes psychological sense
But the diagnosis has done nothing to explain why so many people from the same small town -- 14 teenage girls, a teenage boy and a 36-year-old woman -- started displaying these symptoms within the same time period.
All of the teens attend LeRoy Junior-Senior High School, so the attention has turned there. School officials say everything is safe, but environmental organizations and some parents aren't so sure.
The medical mystery in LeRoy has attracted the attention of activist and investigator Erin Brockovich, who came to the village of 8,000 people in western New York after learning about a 41-year-old toxic spill a few miles from the school.
Brockovich and her longtime associate Bob Bowcock, an engineer who has been in the water treatment and testing business for more than 30 years, arrived in LeRoy after receiving an email note from a parent of one of the affected teens. The two suspect that the illnesses are related to the cyanide and trichloroethylene (TCE) that was spilled during the December 1970 train wreck.
